Heart and stress

Connecting your heart data from Health Connect (Android)

You only need to do this once. VertigoMe does not talk to your watch directly. It reads from Health Connect, a free app from Google that holds health data on your phone. Your watch app (Samsung Health, Fitbit and others) writes into Health Connect, and VertigoMe reads from there.

Step 1: Make sure Health Connect is on your phone

On newer Android phones Health Connect is built in. On older ones you may need to install it.

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for Health Connect.
  3. Tap Install if you see it. If you see Open, you already have it.

If the Health Connect card is missing from VertigoMe's Connections screen, Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone yet.

Step 2: Connect Health Connect in VertigoMe

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.

If you would rather pick and choose, switch on at least Heart rate variability and Resting heart rate. Add Oxygen saturation, Respiratory rate and Body temperature if your watch measures them.

The first time, VertigoMe looks back over the last 14 days.

Step 3: Check that it worked

  1. Tap the Monitor tab.
  2. Scroll to the Physical Health card.
  3. You should see readings such as your resting heart rate and HRV.

What VertigoMe reads

From Health Connect, VertigoMe can read:

  1. Heart rate
  2. Resting heart rate
  3. Heart rate variability (HRV)
  4. Blood oxygen (SpO2)
  5. Respiratory rate
  6. Body temperature
  7. Blood pressure
  8. Blood glucose
  9. Weight and body fat

It also reads steps, workouts and active calories. If no wearable gives a stress score, VertigoMe works out a Stress index from your HRV and resting heart rate. You can switch any of these off under the gear icon, Data and Notifications.

If something went wrong

Health Connect has no heart data

Your watch app has not been allowed to write to Health Connect yet.

  1. Open Health Connect and tap App permissions.
  2. Tap your watch app (for example Samsung Health or Fitbit).
  3. Turn on heart rate, resting heart rate and HRV.

Then open your watch app, let it sync, and open VertigoMe again.

The Health Connect card is missing in VertigoMe

Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone. Install it from the Play Store and try again.

I want to change what VertigoMe can see

  1. Open Health Connect.
  2. Tap App permissions.
  3. Tap VertigoMe.
  4. Switch things on or off as you like.

A note on privacy

On Android, VertigoMe only reads from Health Connect. It does not write anything back.
