How to connect a continuous glucose monitor

If you wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) such as a Dexcom or a FreeStyle Libre, VertigoMe can read your glucose readings. It does not connect to the sensor directly. Your CGM app (or a bridge app such as xDrip+) writes readings to Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, and VertigoMe reads them from there.

Step 1: Make sure your CGM app shares glucose

Open your CGM app and look in its settings for Apple Health or Health Connect. Turn on sharing for Blood Glucose. The wording differs between apps.

Step 2: Connect VertigoMe

On iPhone:

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Apple Health card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. Apple's permission sheet slides up. Tap Turn On All, then Allow.

On Android:

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.

If it already says Connected, check the permission instead. On iPhone: Settings, Apps, Health, Data Access & Devices, VertigoMe. On Android: Health Connect, App permissions, VertigoMe.

Step 3: See your readings

VertigoMe keeps one value per day: your average glucose for that day, in mmol/L. It is listed as Blood Glucose with your other body readings.

  1. Tap the Monitor tab.
  2. Tap the Physical Health card to open it.
  3. Tap Customize Physical Health at the top to choose which metrics the card shows.

Logging a low or a spike yourself

A daily average can hide a short low or spike. Some people notice dizziness when their blood sugar drops. To mark those moments, add a custom trigger such as Blood sugar dip under the gear icon, Manage Items, and log it when your CGM shows a low that you think matters.
