Sleep

Connecting your sleep from Health Connect (Android)

VertigoMe does not talk to your watch or sleep app directly. It reads from Health Connect, a free app from Google that holds health data on your phone. Your sleep app (Samsung Health, Fitbit, Sleep as Android and so on) writes into Health Connect, and VertigoMe reads it from there.

You only need to do this once.

Step 1: Make sure Health Connect is on your phone

On newer Android phones Health Connect is built in. On older ones you may need to install it.

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for Health Connect.
  3. Tap Install if you see it. If you see Open, you already have it.

If the Health Connect card is missing from VertigoMe's Connections screen, Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone yet.

Step 2: Connect Health Connect in VertigoMe

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.
  7. If you would rather pick and choose, make sure Sleep is ticked.

The card now says Connected. The first time, VertigoMe looks back over the last 14 days in Health Connect.

Step 3: Check that it worked

  1. Tap the Monitor tab.
  2. Scroll to the Sleep card.
  3. If your watch or phone tracked last night, you should see it here.

Sleep can take an hour or two to appear after you wake up.

No sleep tracker at all?

On Android, VertigoMe can also estimate sleep from how your phone is used overnight. That is a rougher guide than a watch or sleep app, but it is better than nothing. You can see which source is used under the gear icon, Data and Notifications, Sleep.

If something went wrong

Health Connect has no sleep

Your sleep app has not been allowed to write to Health Connect yet.

  1. Open Health Connect.
  2. Tap App permissions.
  3. Find your sleep app and tap it.
  4. Turn on the switch for Sleep.

Then open VertigoMe again. It checks Health Connect each time you open it.

The Health Connect card is missing

Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone. Install it from the Play Store, then open VertigoMe again.

I want to change what VertigoMe can see

  1. Open Health Connect.
  2. Tap App permissions.
  3. Tap VertigoMe.
  4. Switch things on or off as you like.

A note on privacy

On Android, VertigoMe only reads from Health Connect. It does not write anything back.
