How to connect Eight Sleep

Eight Sleep is a smart mattress cover that tracks your sleep and body temperature. VertigoMe does not talk to Eight Sleep directly. The Eight Sleep app writes your sleep to Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android), and VertigoMe reads it from there.

The steps are different on iPhone and Android. Find your phone below.

On iPhone

Step 1: Make sure the Eight Sleep app writes to Apple Health

  1. Open the Eight Sleep app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or Settings.
  3. Look for Integrations or Apple Health and tap Apple Health.
  4. Tap Connect.
  5. On the permission screen, tap Turn On All, then Allow.

If you see Disconnect instead of Connect, it is already set up.

Step 2: Connect VertigoMe to Apple Health

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Apple Health card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. Apple's permission sheet slides up. Tap Turn On All, then Allow.

Step 3: Check that it is working

  1. After a night on the mattress, open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the Monitor tab and scroll to the Sleep card.

Your sleep should appear within an hour or two of waking up.

On Android

Step 1: Make sure Health Connect is on your phone

On newer Android phones Health Connect is built in. On older ones you may need to install it.

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for Health Connect.
  3. Tap Install if you see it. If you see Open, you already have it.

If the Health Connect card is missing from VertigoMe's Connections screen, Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone yet.

Step 2: Make sure the Eight Sleep app writes to Health Connect

  1. Open the Eight Sleep app.
  2. Tap Settings or your profile picture.
  3. Look for Integrations or Health Connect.
  4. Tap Health Connect, then Connect.
  5. On the permission screen, tap Allow all, then Allow.

Step 3: Connect VertigoMe to Health Connect

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.

Step 4: Check that it is working

  1. After a night on the mattress, open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the Monitor tab and scroll to the Sleep card.

Your sleep should appear within an hour or two of waking up.

What VertigoMe does with your Eight Sleep data

VertigoMe reads your sleep duration and stages, shown on the Sleep card. If Eight Sleep shares body temperature, VertigoMe uses it for the Skin temperature metric in Physical Health.

Troubleshooting

"The Eight Sleep app shows my sleep, but Health (or Health Connect) does not"

Eight Sleep has not been given permission to share. On iPhone, open Settings, Apps, Health, Data Access & Devices, Eight Sleep, and turn all categories on. On Android, open Health Connect, App permissions, Eight Sleep, and turn on the write permissions.

"Health shows sleep, but VertigoMe does not"

On iPhone, check Settings, Apps, Health, Data Access & Devices, VertigoMe, and make sure Sleep is on. On Android, check Health Connect, App permissions, VertigoMe.
