How to connect Sleep as Android

Sleep as Android is a popular sleep tracking app for Android phones. If you have an iPhone, see How to connect AutoSleep, Sleep Cycle or Pillow instead.

VertigoMe does not talk to Sleep as Android directly. Sleep as Android writes your sleep to Health Connect, and VertigoMe reads it from there.

Step 1: Make sure Health Connect is on your phone

On newer Android phones Health Connect is built in. On older ones you may need to install it.

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for Health Connect.
  3. Tap Install if you see it. If you see Open, you already have it.

If the Health Connect card is missing from VertigoMe's Connections screen, Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone yet.

Step 2: Tell Sleep as Android to send to Health Connect

  1. Open Sleep as Android.
  2. Tap the menu (three lines), then open its Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Services.
  4. Tap Health Connect.
  5. Turn the switch on.
  6. On the permission screen, tap Allow all, then Allow.

If you do not see Health Connect under Services, update Sleep as Android in the Play Store.

Step 3: Connect VertigoMe to Health Connect

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.

Step 4: Check that it is working

  1. Sleep as you normally would.
  2. In the morning, check that Sleep as Android recorded the night.
  3. Open VertigoMe, tap the Monitor tab and scroll to the Sleep card.

What VertigoMe does with your sleep

VertigoMe reads how long you slept, your sleep stages and how often you woke. You see it on the Sleep card in the Monitor tab. Short or broken sleep is a common factor people with vestibular conditions notice before a bad day, and once you have logged enough spins, VertigoMe can show whether your own sleep lines up with your spins in Insights.

Troubleshooting

"Sleep as Android recorded, but Health Connect is empty"
