What you can and cannot log from your watch

The watch is for quick taps at the moment something happens. The full spin log, with severity details, position, hearing changes, symptoms and notes, lives on your phone. This article explains what each watch does.

Logging a spin on Apple Watch

On the watch home screen, tap Spin (the first button in the grid). That is it. A spin starts now with severity 5 as a starting point, and the watch shows Spin logged. If a spin is already in progress, the watch does not start a second one.

There is also a Log a spin complication for your watch face. Tap it and confirm Log a spin to start a spin from the watch face. See Using the watch complications on Apple Watch.

Logging a spin on Garmin

Press Log under the gauge and pick Spin. A short list appears: tap Just log to log a plain spin, or pick one of your favourites. The spin starts now with severity 5.

The other buttons

The Apple Watch home grid has six buttons:

  1. Spin: start a spin now.
  2. Trigger: something that may have set off a spin.
  3. Prodrome: an early warning sign.
  4. Medicine: a medicine you have just taken.
  5. Relief: something that helped.
  6. Activity: a walk, exercise or anything else you did.

Tap any of the last five and a list opens. Tap Just log "Trigger" (or the matching category) at the top, or pick one of your favourites for that category. Your favourites are the items you marked as favourites in VertigoMe on your phone.

On Garmin, Log opens the same six categories (the early warning one is called Warning sign). Garmin asks one extra question for two of them: a medicine favourite shows a dose picker, and some reliefs ask how many minutes they lasted. Both lists start with Skip, just log, so one tap is still enough.

Changing or ending a spin

On Apple Watch, while a spin is in progress, a Spin in progress card appears at the bottom of the home screen with:

On Garmin, the home screen shows Spin in progress. You change or end the spin on your phone.

For everything else (position at onset, hearing, symptoms, notes), open VertigoMe on your phone afterwards and edit the spin from the Journal.

If a log does not save

On Apple Watch, a red Not saved. Try again. message means the watch could not reach the internet. Keep your iPhone nearby, or make sure the watch has its own connection, then try again. If it keeps failing, open VertigoMe on your iPhone for a few seconds.

On Garmin, a log made while your phone is out of reach shows Saved, syncs later and is sent once the watch can reach the phone again. If you see Save failed, try again with the phone close by.

Logged the wrong thing? Delete it later from the Journal on your phone.

A simple rule

Watch for the moment a spin starts and ends. Phone for the fuller picture afterwards.
