The Sodium today card on the Home screen adds up the sodium in everything you have logged today. It was built for people with Meniere's disease, who are often advised to keep salt low and steady.
What the card shows
- Sodium today with today's total in milligrams.
- A bar that fills towards the target.
- A line under the bar:
- "X mg left today" while you are under 1,500 mg.
- "X mg above ideal" between 1,500 mg and 2,000 mg.
- "Over target by X mg" above 2,000 mg.
- Meniere's target: 1500 mg/day at the bottom.
The bar is green under the target, amber between 1,500 and 2,000 mg, and red above 2,000 mg.
Free and Premium
The milligram total is free. The bar and the verdict against the target are part of Food Risk Analysis, which is Premium. Free users see a padlock with Food Risk Analysis instead. Logging food in VertigoMe is also Premium.
About the target
The target is a fixed 1,500 mg a day, with 2,000 mg treated as the upper limit. It is not adjusted to your weight, your subtype or advice from your clinic. If your ENT or dietitian has given you a different figure, follow theirs and use the card as a running total.
Where the number comes from
The card adds up the sodium of each food logged today, from barcode scans (Open Food Facts), typed searches and photos (USDA). Meals that another food app shares with Apple Health or Health Connect can be counted too, when that app includes sodium. Tap the card to open the Diet screen.
Hiding the card
If you are not watching salt, scroll to the bottom of Home, tap Customize home and switch off Sodium today.
