If you wear a Garmin watch, VertigoMe can read your sleep, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, stress, blood oxygen, steps and more. That gives a fuller picture than a phone can on its own.
Garmin connects directly to VertigoMe. There is no Apple Health or Health Connect bridge in between. You sign in to your Garmin Connect account once, and your data then flows in on its own. This works the same way on iPhone and on Android.
Step 1: Make sure your device is syncing
- Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone.
- Check that today's data (or last night's sleep) is there.
- If not, bring the device close to your phone and let the app sync.
Step 2: Connect Garmin in VertigoMe
- Open VertigoMe.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
- Tap Connections.
- Find the Garmin card (it shows the Garmin logo) and tap Connect.
- A short VertigoMe note, Connect Garmin?, explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
- A Garmin sign-in page opens. On iPhone, your phone may first ask whether VertigoMe may use the Garmin website to sign in. Tap Continue.
- Sign in with your Garmin Connect email and password.
- Allow VertigoMe to read your data.
You are taken back to VertigoMe and the button now reads Connected.
Step 3: Wait a little while
The first time you connect, VertigoMe asks Garmin for up to 30 days of past data. This can take a few minutes. After that, new data arrives after your watch syncs with Garmin Connect.
To check it is working, open the Monitor tab and look at the Sleep and Physical Health cards.
What comes through
Sleep (duration, stages, score, timing and disturbances), recovery, resting heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, skin temperature, steps, strain, time in high heart rate zones and Garmin's own stress score. In VertigoMe, Garmin data is labelled Garmin.
When you connect Garmin, VertigoMe makes it the source for the metrics it supports, including your sleep. If you use more than one device, you can change the source for each metric. See Choosing which device gives VertigoMe each piece of data.
Troubleshooting
"Connected but no data"
- Open Garmin Connect and let it sync.
- Open VertigoMe and go to the Monitor tab. Pull down to refresh.
- Overnight data can take an hour or two after you wake up.
If it is still empty after a few hours, disconnect and connect again (see below).
"What is the Pair watch button for?"
The Garmin card has two buttons. Connect links your Garmin health data. Pair watch links the VertigoMe app on a Garmin watch, which is a separate, optional step. See Setting up VertigoMe on a Garmin watch.
"I want to disconnect"
Tap the Connected button on the Garmin card. A window asks Disconnect Garmin?. Tap Disconnect. Metrics that came from Garmin move to the next source that can provide them, such as Apple Health or Health Connect. To fully remove VertigoMe's access, you can also revoke it in your Garmin Connect account settings.
