How to connect a Mi Fitness or Huawei Health device

If you wear a Xiaomi Smart Band, Redmi Watch, or a Huawei Watch or Huawei Band, this guide is for you.

VertigoMe does not talk to these devices directly. They send their data to Health Connect, Google's free health hub on Android, and VertigoMe reads it from there.

On Android

Step 1: Make sure Health Connect is on your phone

On newer Android phones Health Connect is built in. On older ones you may need to install it.

  1. Open the Play Store.
  2. Search for Health Connect.
  3. Tap Install if you see it. If you see Open, you already have it.

If the Health Connect card is missing from VertigoMe's Connections screen, Health Connect is not installed or not available on your phone yet.

Step 2: Make sure the companion app shares with Health Connect

For Mi Fitness (Xiaomi, Redmi):

  1. Open Mi Fitness and tap Profile.
  2. Look for Third-party access (or Add accounts).
  3. Turn on Health Connect and tap Allow all.

For Huawei Health:

  1. Open Huawei Health and tap Me.
  2. Tap Settings, then Data sharing.
  3. Turn on Health Connect and tap Allow all.

If you cannot find Health Connect, update the companion app.

Step 3: Connect Health Connect in VertigoMe

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Health Connect card at the top and tap Connect. If it already says Connected, skip ahead.
  5. A short VertigoMe note explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. The Health Connect permission screen appears. Tap Allow all, then Allow.

The button now reads Connected. The first time, VertigoMe looks back over the last 14 days in Health Connect.

Step 4: Check that it is working

  1. Open VertigoMe and tap the Monitor tab.
  2. Look at the Sleep and Physical Health cards.

On iPhone

Mi Fitness and Huawei Health on iPhone do not reliably share with Apple Health, so VertigoMe cannot read them there. See My wearable is not in the list, what do I do?

Troubleshooting

"Connected but no data"

There is a chain: device, companion app, Health Connect, VertigoMe. If one link is broken, VertigoMe sees nothing.

  1. Open the companion app and check today's numbers are there.
  2. Open Health Connect, tap App permissions, and check the companion app is allowed to write sleep, steps and heart data.
  3. If not, go back through Step 2.

"Heart rate is missing"

Many Xiaomi and Huawei bands measure heart rate only now and then to save battery. Turn on continuous heart rate in the companion app's watch settings.

"I have a Huawei phone with no Play Store"

Health Connect is not available on Huawei phones without Google services, so VertigoMe cannot read your band there.

"I want to disconnect"

In VertigoMe, tap the Connected button on the Health Connect card. A window asks Disconnect Health Connect?. Tap Disconnect. To remove permissions too, open Health Connect, App permissions, VertigoMe.
