How to connect an Oura ring

An Oura ring measures your sleep, heart rate variability, body temperature and readiness while you sleep, without you having to do anything. VertigoMe can use all of that to look for patterns around your spins.

Oura connects directly to VertigoMe. There is no Apple Health or Health Connect bridge in between. You sign in to your Oura account once, and your data then flows in on its own. This works the same way on iPhone and on Android.

Step 1: Make sure your device is syncing

  1. Open the Oura app on your phone.
  2. Check that today's data (or last night's sleep) is there.
  3. If not, bring the device close to your phone and let the app sync.

Step 2: Connect Oura in VertigoMe

  1. Open VertigoMe.
  2. Tap the gear icon in the top-left of the screen. A drawer slides in from the left.
  3. Tap Connections.
  4. Find the Oura card (it shows the Oura logo) and tap Connect.
  5. A short VertigoMe note, Connect Oura?, explains what will be read. Tap Continue.
  6. A Oura sign-in page opens. On iPhone, your phone may first ask whether VertigoMe may use the Oura website to sign in. Tap Continue.
  7. Sign in with your Oura email and password.
  8. Allow VertigoMe to read your data.

You are taken back to VertigoMe and the button now reads Connected.

Step 3: Wait a little while

The first time you connect, VertigoMe asks Oura for up to 30 days of past data. This can take a few minutes. After that, last night's sleep usually appears an hour or so after you wake up.

To check it is working, open the Monitor tab and look at the Sleep and Physical Health cards.

What comes through

Sleep (duration, stages, score, timing and disturbances), readiness as recovery, resting heart rate, HRV, skin temperature, blood oxygen, respiratory rate, steps, strain, time in high heart rate zones and a stress estimate.

When you connect Oura, VertigoMe makes it the source for the metrics it supports, including your sleep. If you use more than one device, you can change the source for each metric. See Choosing which device gives VertigoMe each piece of data.

Troubleshooting

"Connected but no data"

  1. Open Oura and let it sync.
  2. Open VertigoMe and go to the Monitor tab. Pull down to refresh.
  3. Overnight data can take an hour or two after you wake up.

If it is still empty after a few hours, disconnect and connect again (see below).

"Oura stopped sending data"

If you removed VertigoMe from your Oura account, or the permission stopped working, new data stops arriving. Tap Connected on the Oura card, tap Disconnect, then tap Connect and sign in again.

"I want to disconnect"

Tap the Connected button on the Oura card. A window asks Disconnect Oura?. Tap Disconnect. Metrics that came from Oura move to the next source that can provide them, such as Apple Health or Health Connect. To fully remove VertigoMe's access, you can also revoke it in your Oura account settings.
